Due to restrictions imposed by the UMD athletics department, graduate students are required to move their vehicles if they currently park in any of the following lots: 4b, 4j, 6 (Terrapin Trail Garage), 9b, 11b, NN, P1, P2, UU, XX1, XVL and Regents Drive Garage. Please search for those lots on the official campus map. Specifically, this means that student commuters, with or without a permit, cannot enter those lots starting several hours before and must be out 3 hours before some home games. Game day restrictions are presented on this page of the DOTS website.
Basketball game schedules are posted on the Athletics website and parking restrictions are based on that schedule. DOTS posts game day tow notices outside lots that are restricted, so please look at those notices or the DOTS website to figure out if they have conflicts.
If you park in one of the above lots and anticipate a scheduling conflict that requires an exemption from moving, you may apply for a DOTS exemption permit through GSG as part of our student advocacy efforts. Please note that exemption permits are add-ons to existing permits, not replacements, so you will not be able to receive or use an exemption permit without first having a regular permit. If you don't have a regular permit, you cannot apply. While we don't verify your parking status ahead of time, if you falsify your information and submit an application anyway, DOTS will most likely not issue the exemption, but even if they do, your vehicle will still get towed if you don't also have a regular permit.
For the 2024-2025 academic year, games will be held on December 4, January 29, and February 26. Each of these games will be held on a Wednesday, so only students expecting to be on campus on those Wednesdays should apply.
You only need to fill out one permit per basketball season - i.e. one permit per vehicle. Please understand that GSG has 300 permits to hand out on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please also note that requests from those with academic or professional reasons why relocation isn't feasible will be prioritized.
By filling out this form, GSG will send your information to DOTS and you will be able to pick up your permit physically at the DOTS office on campus. Once you fill out the form, you can go to the DOTS office with your physical UMD ID card. You must present your UMD ID card to pick up the permit.
You do not need to wait for a confirmation from GSG to pick up your permit, and due to staffing limitations, you will not receive one unless you request it. Current processing times are approximately 5-7 business days after receiving your submission. GSG authorizes these requests, but DOTS processes them, so any questions regarding the issuing process itself should be directed to DOTS at transportation@umd.edu.
