GSG Efforts Related to Employment
Employment advocacy (for protections, security and benefits) was one of the initial reasons the Graduate Student Government was formed. The mission stays the same, to work together to identify issues and work together towards solutions.

Some recent successes:
From 2018-2022 the minimum graduate assistant stipends have been increased by over 50%
Parental leave options have been extended to graduate assistants
COVID-19 flexibility included funding to cover GAs who have delays to graduation and for other financial hardships
Health insurance is mandatory with options for either the employee package or for SHIP

Ongoing Issues:
Advisor-Advisee relationships where the advisee is taken advantage of/exploited
Not having the right (state law) to consider various forms of collective bargaining
Not having the same protections as other state employees
